The X-ray Transform and its Application in Nano Crystallography
Authors
Abstract:
In this article a review on the definition of the X- ray transform and some ofits applications in Nano crystallography is presented. We shall show that the X- raytransform is a special case of the Radon transform on homogeneous spaces when thetopological group E(n)- the Euclidean group - acts on ℝ2 transitively. First someproperties of the Radon transform are investigated then the relationship to texture analysisis briefly illustrated. Finally, some of its applications in material structure detection at theNano scale are studied.

full textPhase Problem in X-ray Crystallography, and Its Solution
X-ray diffraction provides one of the most important tools for examining the three-dimensional (3D) structure of biological macromolecules. The physics of diffraction requires that in order to resolve features of atomic structure it is necessary to employ radiation with a wavelength of the order of atomic spacing or smaller. Xrays have suitable wavelength, and interact with the electrons of the...

x Ray crystallography is currently the most favoured technique for structure determination of proteins and biological macromolecules. Increasingly, those interested in all branches of the biological sciences require structural information to shed light on previously unanswered questions. Furthermore, the availability of a protein structure can provide a more detailed focus for future research. ...

In Ref. [I] a signal reconstruction problem motivated by x-ray crystallography was solved using a Bayesian statistical approach. The signal is zero-one, periodic, and substantial statistical a priori information is known, which is modeled with a Markov random field. The data are inaccurate magnitudes of the Fourier coefficients of the signal. The solution is explicit and the computational burde...
